Situation of Displaced Nuba in Northern Sudan

Recently Ru’ya Association for Nuba Women carried out survey study on the internal displaced Nuba in seven states in Northern Sudan. Their finding were that the number of the displaced Nuba in Northern Sudan found to be between 299,621 - 300,015.

The findings of this survey indicate that these displaced people in order to survive had to take some of lowest menial and tiring jobs. As most of the jobs are low pay, women had to participate in income generation of similar sort of jobs mainly domestic and related work. However, the most striking finding of this survey is the number of children who have been displaced with their families. It is obvious that these children are deprived of the most simple means that they require. There is no facilities for their education, no health care or social development.

The fact that women had to work children would suffer consequently, as they would lack parental care and supervision during the early stage of their development. This situation will undoubtedly result in a serious damage to the future prospect of these displaced children, as children represent the future of the nation, the consequence of such neglect and deprivation should be taken seriously. Therefore, the displaced people need urgent help.
